Youth football program's no-pay-to-play promise in jeopardy

Youth football program's no-pay-to-play promise in jeopardy

SHERWOOD, Ore. -- If you like football and live in Sherwood, there's a good chance you know Mark Gribble.

If you don't know Gribble, you might soon.

Gribble, a 1991 Sherwood High School grad, is a board member of the Sherwood Youth Football Association and serves as the coach of coaches, which essentially is a liason between the youth program and the successful Sherwood High School program, which won the Class 5A state championship in 2010 and finished second in 2011. Along with other board members, Gribble has set a fund-raising plan in motion to help youth football players suit up and take the field this upcoming season. Organization members are attempting to come up with a way to raise approximately $20,000 to replace 180 football helmets, along with shoulder pads, prior to the season which starts in August.

Last year, board members spent approximately $30,000 to purchase various equipment. Gribble said the board will spend "another large chunk" again this year.

Caught on video: Robbery suspect waves knife, grabs cash

KING CITY, Ore. – Detectives in Washington County are looking for a man who they said robbed a deli near King City earlier this month.

A man walked into the Lil’ Brick Deli, located at 16735 SW Pacific Highway, at around 3:15 p.m. on Jan. 17 and robbed the clerk with a knife, according to Washington County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. David Thompson.

The clerk told deputies a man wearing a dark hoody asked her for change. When she opened the register, he tried to grab the money in the till. The clerk threw and handful of change at him when he tried to grab for it, Thompson said.

The suspect lunged at the clerk with the knife while she tried to prevent him from taking the money in the cash register, Thompson said. He took the money from the till and ran away.

The clerk was not hurt in the robbery.
